MOSQUITOES

Summer time is in full swing- the heat, the rain, and of course those pesky mosquitoes. There is thought to be well over 70 species of mosquitoes in Florida. This is much higher than most other states. There are several species of mosquitoes that are known to spread pathogens that can cause diseases in humans, and in some cases animals. Most mosquitoes thrive where there is high moisture or water. Mosquitoes will lay their eggs in standing water and moist soil. Mosquitoes prefer a blood meal from a variety of hosts- i.e. humans, pets, wild animals and more! Mosquitoes undergo complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Mosquitoes have piercing mouthparts that are used to “bite” and/or extract blood from its desired host. A Mosquito “bite” can leave a white to reddish bump on your skin. Swelling may also occur around the bite site. For more information on mosquito bites, please call a healthcare professional/doctor.

Mosquitoes are no doubt a problem here in Southwest Florida. With that said, each county is in charge of mosquito control. However, Certified Pest Control of Naples is proud to offer a mosquito treatment, in addition to what the county offers, to help control the mosquitoes around your home or business.
